ABOUT ComAV
The Flanders Composers Archipelago (“Componisten Archipel Vlaanderen vzw”) is a group dedicated to the interests of composers active in the Flemish part of Belgium. Composers of all styles of music are eligible for membership.
ComAV was founded in 1983 and has 185 members forming a cross-section of composing in Flanders.

The aims of ComAV are to contribute to a constructive climate for musical composition in Flanders and to create favourable circumstances in which the broadest possible spectrum of musical composers can flourish.

The name “archipelago”, a collection of islands, is a metaphor for composers’ inherent independence.
ComAV’s activities are directed towards the common ground, or perhaps open sea, where composers’ interests meet.

The acronym “ComAV” stands for the Flanders Composers Archipelago (“Componisten Archipel Vlaanderen vzw”). “Kom af!” (pronounced the same way) in Dutch is a friendly invitation meaning, “Come and join us!”
ComAV is an organisation that works for a better climate and better conditions for composers in Flanders.
All composers working in Flanders can join ComAV. There is no style discrimination.
Our motto is: each composer his own archipelago – island
ComAV is the symbolic bridge between those islands and between supporting organisations, musicians, orchestras, ensembles and the Flemish government.

ComAV was founded in 2003.
